Is the perfume hoax a hoax itself? Everybody has gotten those email forwards at one time or another; you know the WARNING: IF YOU DON’T PASS THIS YOU WILL BE SORRY YOU DIDN'T type of email? Well, there is a new one going around this year, and it has to do with a perfume hoax. The email states that people are approaching others in department store parking lots and such and inviting them to buy cheap knockoff perfume that they have. Instead of buying perfume, the email says that the person in question is knocked unconscious and robbed of everything they have on them, sometimes even their vehicle. Does this sound like a perfume hoax to you? If so, that may be because it is.

Perfume Hoax Email Forwards

Here is one of the emails that are floating around; they come in many forms and this is just one of them that you may have received:

I WAS SENT AN E-MAIL AT WORK ABOUT SOMEONE WALKING UP TO YOU AT A MALL OR PARKING LOT AND ASKING YOU TO SNIFF PERFUME THEY ARE SELLING AT A CHEAP PRICE. THIS ISN'T REALLY PERFUME BUT ETHER, AND YOU WILL PASS OUT AND THEY TAKE YOUR WALLET AND ALL YOUR VALUABLES. THIS IS NOT A PRANK E-MAIL, THIS IS TRUE BECAUSE I WAS STOPPED IN GOVERNOR'S SQUARE PARKING LOT TODAY.

A MAROON CAR PULLED UP TO ME WITH TWO FEMALES. THE FEMALE ON THE PASSENGER SIDE ROLLED DOWN THE WINDOW AND ASKED ME IF I WOULD BE INTERESTED IN "SNIFFING" SOME PERFUME THEY WERE SELLING. I REMEMBERED THE E-MAIL I JUST RECEIVED YESTERDAY, AND SAID NO. SHE ASKED ME A SECOND TIME, I KEPT ON WALKING SAID NO ONCE AGAIN AND THEY PULLED OFF. IF IT WEREN'T FOR THE E-MAIL, I VERY WELL MAY HAVE DONE IT. PLEASE PASS THIS ON TO ALL YOUR FRIENDS AND TELL THEM TO BEWARE. THIS IS TRUE!!

IF IT WEREN'T FOR THE E-MAIL I GOT YESTERDAY, I VERY WELL MAY HAVE BEEN A VICTIM. REMEMBER TO PASS THIS ON!!!!!

Depending on where you live, this perfume hoax may hit closer to home for you than for others. There are people out there that make a living selling knock off perfume and other items from the trunks of their vehicles and approaching customers at checking cashing establishments, department stores, or even their place of employment to try and solicit them to buy some of their goods.

Obviously, a person who is selling perfume may ask you to sniff it, right? This is even how things are done in the department stores, so needless to say it is not uncommon. Especially if they are admitting that these are copies of popular fragrances, they want you to try the fragrance for yourself so that you can see that they really do smell like the actual designer fragrance. Many times they do, and this sales tactic works resulting in a sale for them.

When you get an email like this perfume hoax email, you have to ask yourself how much sense they really make. Why would a person put ether in a perfume bottle and ask you to sniff it in front of a parking lot full of people, just to wait for you to fall down on the floor and rob you. What would they do then (in broad daylight or in a well-lit parking lot, as most are)?

In case it has not hit you yet, the perfume hoax email is not true. There are various reasons why people forward ridiculous emails like this on in the first place to create this type of scare, but many times it is in an attempt to collect email information from other people. They can be used for spam or marketing purposes, but are not always hoaxes. Use your common sense and do a bit of investigation before you take these email forwards word for word.
*A Note About Perfume for Protection

There are other emails that are also going around regarding various ways to protect yourself. Since you have landed on this page, it is assumed that you are a perfume lover. What would you say if you were told that you could protect yourself with a small bottle of perfume?

Get yourself a small bottle of perfume, perhaps 20 oz. or smaller. Carry it around in your purse or your gym bag, but have it on hand at all times. If you are ever approached by someone or threatened, spray the perfume in their face. It usually contains a very high concentration of alcohol and is bound to do some serious damage to the eyes. Better smelling and easier to use than pepper spray and more legal than a gun, perfume for protection is something you may have never thought of before but will find very convenient in a time of need.
