Becoming one of Paris, France's most phenomenal designers, Coco Chanel made a name for herself through fashion, perfume and jewelry, between 1912 and 1920. During her time, she brought forth diverse styles in dress, trousers, suits and even textiles. Not to mention her signature Chanel No 5 fragrance that is still popular even today.

Eventually she made her way to the states in Jersey. In the 1920's, when women's liberation seemed to go into full force, she brought on that 'little boy' look, revolutionizing the mannish type dress. Not to mention bringing in the shorter skirts and dresses. You can say that Chanel helped to pave the way for today's society in it's modernized dress compared to the more Victorian dress of the nineteenth century.

Finally, in 1922, Chanel No 5 was introduced and became popular. This is when Pierre Wertheimer and Chanel became partners in 1924. Some say that they may have been lovers as well. He owned 70% of the company, while she only owned 10%. Then her friend Bader owned 20%. The Wertheimer family still own the company even today.

Chanel is the one who introduced the 'little black dress' in 1926. Along with the little black dress, she had a signature cardigan as well. That was brought about in 1925. Chanel is the one who brought about bell bottom pants for women. She brought about the Chanel suit along with signature purses. Chanel introduced pea jackets as well.

Along with the fashions that she brought about, Chanel also designed many costumes for film and plays. Some of these include the 1923 play Antigone and the 1937 play Oedipus Rex. Some of the movies that she made costumes for included La Regle de Jeu. Also, Katharine Hepburn stared in the Broadway musical of the life of Coco Chanel, in 1969.

In the year 1931, being paid one million dollars by Samuel Goldwin, Chanel was hired to clothe stars such as Grace Kelly, Elizabeth Taylor, Kathrine Hepburn and Elizabeth Taylor. Shortly thereafter, at the fall of Paris in 1939, Chanel was forced to close her boutiques and then moved to Switzerland for fifteen years. It wasn't long after that Chanel worked here in the States for Hollywood studios and dressed stars such as Liz Taylor, Audrey Hepburn and Anne Baxter. This was in the 1950-1960's.

Some of her fashions are even popular today. These include the turtle neck sweater, the jumper, pleaded skirts and the blazer. Chanel also designed the chemise, the sling pump, and even the trench coat. She was also the one that brought pants into the female world of fashion.

Chanel was the one to introduce the tricot sailor frock and the wool jersey. She was also responsible for the gypsy skirts, silken blouses and shawls. Chanel had some of the most expensive clothes and were purchased among the wealthy in Paris. She even saw no problem with lower class replicas to be made for the less fortunate. Because of her delight in revolutionizing even the lower class women's dress, many less fortunate women were able to afford the 'Chanel look'.

Even today, the Chanel Suit is among the most popular in classy dress. It is well known for it's 'boxy lines'. Only found in such stores as Saks Fifth Avenue and Chanel Boutiques, you can find these suits in their originality for about $5000.00. Chanel never considered herself to be a feminist. Instead you can say that she simply embraces feminism.

She simply changed the way women would look at themselves and revolutionized the more cutting edge and chic look that is still embraced in modern society. You can say that, yes, she is highly responsible for the liberation of women's apparel.

January 10, 1971, Coco Chanel came face to face with her demise. She was found dead at the age of 87 in her Ritz Hotel in Paris France. She was ill, however, she kept working. She was working on the spring collection for that year's fashion shows at the time of her death. Chanel No 5 is what made Coco Chanel popular, not so much her fashions. A woman who definitely made a name for herself and helped to pave the way of modern day women's apparel, Gabriel 'Coco' Chanel, Paris' finest.

Coco Chanel: Revolutionizing Modern Beauty Senses Beyond Chanel No 5

Gabrielle Coco Chanel, founder of the Chanel fragrance was born in 1883 and died in 1971. The House of Chanel is located in France and owned by Alain Wertheimer and Gerard Wertheimer. The two brothers are French businessmen who own a business in Switzerland. They are the grandchildren of Pierre Wertheimer, who worked close to Coco because of his expertise in commerce. They were essentially partners for the Chanel No. 5 Perfume around 1922.

At one time, Gabrielle even claimed to have been born in 1893 and claimed to have been born in Auvergne. She lost her mother at the age of six. Her mother worked in a poorhouse. After her mother died, her father left all five of his children with family to care for.

She adopted her nickname Coco while working in a cafe between 1905 and 1908. She became a mistress for two men. One of them being a wealthy military officer and the other an English industrialist. With that, Chanel was able to set up a millinery shop in Paris. That was in the year 1910. Eventually the business spread to Deauville and Biarritz. Not only that, these men were able to bring her customers of high class and her hats seemingly launched her career. Chanel was a World War I nurse briefly. Not to mention that, during World War II, she had an affair with a Nazi officer.
